There are many dynamics that occur when trauma is experienced when very young or during adulthood, and often forms of dissociative and other defense mechanisms are engaged to try to protect those harmed, but get stuck. We provide the needed education and assistance to aid our clients to unstick and to move into the present thus lowering panic and increasing healthier relationships. However, trauma cannot be effectively treated with only CBT or DBT or with Moral Injury. It requires a mind and body tool that can reach the limbic system along with the neo cortex of the brain. Such modalities include EMDR, Brainspotting, Emotional Freedom Therapy, and IFS to name a few of the tools that we have at HHCS. With these, those who suffer from cPTSD, or other trauma will find peace as the traumatic events are processed and are distanced from the client.
Clients will complete a 16 session course to learn about addiction and how this effects their brain. They learn how this removes discernment and replaces this with justification and rationalization. Clients learn their triggers and what to do when they have urges and cravings. They learn coping tools and mindfulness tools. Often the addiction is due to a root of trauma that will be addressed during and after the actual course to irradiate the trauma's effect. Client will increase conflict resolution skills and relational builders to help repair their relationships. In addition the client will address the very real risks that occur and attempt to redeem their trust.
